Boy chic in autumn

We love coats, boots and polo necks!

Twiggy, Tunics and travelling back in time!

As soon as summer comes to an end, most of us put their mini dresses and sandals with a heavy heart in the very last corner of our closet. The good news about autumns arrival however, is that we will have to go shopping for new clothes. So its about time to get a little informed about this autumns upcoming trends. Coming from summers 70s-revival we now travel even further back in time to the 60s. This decade not only featured the birth of our beloved mini skirt and bikini, it also invented elegant coat-styles, a variation in fabrics (PVC was not only used for floors but also for dresses) and, of course, the nowadays already omnipresent hippie influences. Besides, autumn features a lot of black and white combinations, prints and patterns (especially flower prints to try to extend the summer feeling a little more) and pastel colours.
We are starting our little journey through time with Twiggys comeback: The 60s featured many different trends, broke many fashion traditions and paved the way for a lot of fashion highlights we still hang on to. It was the period of culottes, PVC dresses and knee-high go-go boots. Jackie Kennedy invented the so-called pillbox hat, Mary Quant became famous for her invention of fashion for young people, especially white collars and the mini skirt.

However, so far, the comeback of the pillbox hat might be a touch too extreme. Therefore, we follow the basics of this trend: Focusing on colours and tones as well as the typical shape of clothing, while accessories are less of an issue. A 60s style all-rounder and perfect for getting through cold times in a very stylish way is the knee high boot, preferably in a bright colour like this pair by Acne (Produkt z.Zt. ausverkauft). Combine it with tights and a mini skirt or dress in bright colours or catchy patterns. Typical for this years autumn will be dresses in Hippie-Style or with a touch of American-Indian influences, like the multi-coloured Missoni Knit Dress (Produkt z.Zt. ausverkauft). Combine it with boots and a sweet 60s coat like the one by Sonia by Sonia Rykiel (Produkt z.Zt. ausverkauft). Following this trend you will have to be a friend of colours like yellow and orange. If you do, itll be the perfect style for autumn as its characteristic polo necks, sleeveless sweaters, tights and skirts are the perfect parts for dressing in layers. Perfectly prepared for autumns change in moods, from cold, foggy mornings to nicely warm evenings under red and yellow trees.

Our second big autumn trend would make fashion legend Yves Saint Laurent very proud: “Garçonne“ is the feminine version of the word „boy“ and this pretty much already explains everything about this trend: This autumn, stylish girls borrow from their boyfriends closets. The result is a mixture of sophistication, understatement and boy-ish charm.

It was 1965 when YSL designed the first pantsuit for women, called “Le Smoking”. It was the beginning of the arrival of mens clothes and cuts in womens closets. Now, more than 50 years later the gender shake-up celebrates its comeback. Labels like Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Paul Smith or Hermès seem to have been inspired by YSLs androgynous fashion.

However, this autumn they go a little further. The motto is called “boy meets girl” and means boyishness mixed with feminine sex appeal. On the catwalks we saw feminine shapes hidden under masculine aesthetics with over-sized cuts by Stella McCartney or Alexander Wang. Michael Kors combined this with a feminine touch by adding plunging silk shirts or sparkling trousers and most importantly: Heels! So ladies, take off your summer dresses and put on black pants, white shirts, black suspenders and a way too big blazer on top (Produkt z.Zt. ausverkauft). Mens closets truly are a treasure trove for us women. Not only do we find inspiration for colours and shapes in there, but also pieces of clothing like trouser suits, blazers, mens trousers and ties. For a perfect fit, try this pair of trousers by Stella McCartney (Produkt z.Zt. ausverkauft). With these autumn trends in mind, you just cant go wrong!
